I thought I have the slow cooker, I have the stove-top pressure cooker, I don’t have much counter space…do I want to add another appliance to the counter? Whoa…it is everywhere. There are big discounts for Thanksgiving. I give in! And guess what? I love it. The Instant Pot — a device that combines an electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker and yogurt maker in one handy unit — makes every cook interested in the possibilities they can create. Read about the history of the instant pot, which has indeed attracted a devout following here. In the few weeks that I have been using the Instant Pot, I have become a fan. Here’s why:
You don’t have to plan much ahead for your dinner
You and cook simple meals in a meager 15 minutes. I started my instant pot journey with simple recipes such as lentil soup (or dal), rice pulao and pasta dishes.
The food tastes better and you can make it in bulk
I can make lentil soup or pasta for 10 people easily in the instant pot. It takes almost the same time. Isn’t that great for parties or picnics? You could also make your favorite meal in bulk and store for later, but hey, this is quick so you can actually prepare fresh meals everyday. Your family will love you for that!
It has a built-in saute function, which means less dishes to wash
Let me explain, you can saute, pressure cook in the same pot. So now you are only using one pot to make the whole meal, which translates to less things to wash. I love that…and my husband loves that too! So here we go…this blog is going to start with recipes using instant pot and maybe some using other appliances in your kitchen. I will be sharing mostly Indian recipes, but some other cuisines too. Let’s start the adventure! Check out Instant Pot recipes here and Instant Pot accessories here.
