White Chocolate can be made easily with available ingredients in your kitchen. I was looking for some simple and quick recipe to try for valentines day and white chocolate flashed my mind. So do try this simple, easy and quick chocolate and surprise your loved ones!

What is White Chocolate?

White Chocolate is a type of chocolate that does not contain cocoa. Unlike traditional dark or milk chocolate, white chocolate is made from sugar, milk powder and fat which can be butter or coconut oil or ghee. The key ingredient in white chocolate is cocoa butter but it is not available here so I usually use coconut oil as a healthy alternate. When I was looking out for homemade white chocolate recipe there were many which used more of sugar and that’s not I wanted. So I started experimenting with different measures and in my third attempt I nailed the recipe and after that it has become my keeper so sharing it here for you all to enjoy too. The main and primary ingredient in this chocolate is cocoa butter, which is the fatty component extracted from cocoa beans but it cocoa butter is not easy to source so alternatively I have use coconut oil. Many enjoy the sweet and creamy taste of white chocolate, while few others prefer the rich flavor of dark or milk chocolate. You can either use melted butter for a rich tasting chocolate or coconut oil for a healthy version. White chocolate is used in various dishes including baking, confectionery, and desserts. It is often melted and drizzled over pastries, cakes, cookies, used as a coating for candies etc.

White Chocolate Ingredients

Milk powder – Make sure to use fine milk powder else pulse it couple of times and then use it. Powdered Sugar – You can pulse normal crystal sugar, sieve it and use it. Coconut oil – Use good quality coconut oil. However you can replace it with melted ghee too.

How to make white chocolate step by step

1.To a sieve add 1/8 cup powdered sugar, 6 tablespoon milk powder. 2.Sieve it well. 3.Discard the remains. 4.Give a quick mix and set it aside. 5.Add water to a sauce pan – let it boil. 6.Place a heat proof bowl over it. Make sure the bowl is dry and the base of the bowl should not touch the boiling water. Add 1/4 cup coconut oil to the bowl. 7.Add sieved ingredients. Add in 2 batches. 8.Whisk it well without any lumps then add next batch. 9.The mixture should be smooth without lumps. Switch off and remove the bowl. 10.Immediately pour into the mold. 11.Tap few times then set in fridge for minimum 1 hour. 12.This is after setting the chocolate in fridge for 1 hour. Homemade chocolate is ready. 13.Remove from the mold. 14.Homemade white chocolate is ready! Refrigerate it until serving time. Delicious homemade chocolate is ready!

Expert Tips

Make sure to store in fridge after demolding as it melts easily. You can blend milk powder once to make it more smooth. The bowl you use for melting and mixing should not have any moisture inside. Also the base of the bowl should not touch the boiling water inside. The bowl should be exposed only to the steam. Don’t have silicone mold you can spoon the mixture into small circles on a parchment paper or even a plate and refrigerate until set. Sieving ensure there are no lumps in the mixture so it is really important. If using butter melt it measure 1/4 cup then use it. If using ghee measure melted ghee and use it. You can add any topping of your choice : nuts, sprinkles, dry fruits, puffed rice, cookies, biscuits etc. You can also add different flavors of your choice : peppermint, vanilla, strawberry, orange etc.

Storage Suggestion

Homemade chocolate melts easily in room temperature so store in fridge until serving time. It keeps well for 2 weeks in fridge and in freezer for more than 3 months.
