Why This Recipe Works?

Every time, the rice comes out perfectly fluffy!  You can make any variety of rice by adjusting the amount of water and the cooking time!  You can put away your rice cooker now! No need to actively monitor while rice is cooking.

Ingredients and Notes

Basmati Rice: I used basmati rice for this dish. You can also use another kind of long-grain rice. See details for other varieties of rice below. Water: Water is needed for a simple rice recipe. But if you want to add more flavor to your rice, you can use chicken or vegetable broth.  Salt (optional): I like to add a pinch of salt to make it taste better. Oil or Ghee: Add oil or ghee to the pot before cooking. This will also help prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

How to Make Ninja Foodi Rice

Wash basmati rice until the water runs clear. If soaking, soak the rice in excess water for 1 hour. After the soaking time is done, rinse the rice.

Add the water and rice to the ninja foodi pressure cooker. If using, add the ghee/oil and salt. Start the pressure cooker for 2 minutes on high pressure with the vent in the sealing position.

When the ninja foodi beeps, do 10 minutes of natural pressure release, which means release the pressure manually 10 minutes after the ninja foodi beeps.

Fluff the rice with a ladle or fork. Let them stand for five more minutes.

Rice is ready to be served with your favorite curry.

Expert Tips

Give a gentle stir after placing all the ingredients in the pot. This helps to ensure that everything is spread evenly. Don’t forget to put the valve to sealing before you start pressure cooking. As you turn the valve to vent, make sure to keep your hands away from the top of the valve so that you do not accidentally burn yourself from the steam being released. Gently fluff rice with a fork or use a rice paddle to serve. Once pressure is released., take the insert out of the ninja foodi, so that the bottom layer of the rice does not overcook and become dry. You can also transfer the cooked rice to a serving dish, so it does not overcook in the pressure cooker.

Pot-in-Pot Method

If you have not tried it, you can also use the pot-in-pot method to cook rice in a pressure cooker. Here are some advantages:

You can cook less quantity of rice. You don’t need to wash the large insert if cooking rice in a small bowl. You can cook in the serving bowl itself. You can cook a complete meal at once and save precious time. With entree in the main insert and brown rice in a bowl on a trivet.  See the video to cook Dal Makhani (Madras Lentils) or Rajma (Red Beans Curry) along with brown rice.

If you are doing pot-in-pot (PIP), you must cook for a little additional time. Check out the pot-in-pot rice recipe.
