Makkan Peda is a sweet famous in Arcot. It is believed that this sweet has originated from the royal nawabs kitchens of Arcot, a small town in Vellore. Makkan Peda is made using khoya and maida for the outer covering. This sweet is rich with dry fruits and nuts stuffed inside.Though it resembles close to gulab jamun, the taste and texture sure differs. The soft juicy texture of the makkan peda melts in the mouth , with dry fruit and nuts filling it tastes divine. I noted down this makkan peda recipe a year back which I saw in a TV show where the anchor showed the making of this sweet in a sweet shop.
