Pin Soya chunks or mealmaker as we have commonly heard is rich in protein. It is a vegetarian alternate for meat as it has a chewy texture which tastes close to meat. Soya chunks has protein that is almost equal to meat with no fat as in meat. It is easy to work with soya chunks as it absorbs the flavours. So its good to use it for gravies, kurma, pulao etc. There are a lot of dishes you can cook with soya chunks or meal maker or soya nuggets. But the trick is to cook soya chunks getting rid of the after smell so here I have given 2 methods to cook soyachunks perfectly without any weird smell or after taste. You can use any of the 2 methods for any variety of soya chunks irrespective of the size. Its not that you should use method 1 for bigger variety and method 2 for smaller variety, you can use it viceversa too as per your convenience. Both the methods work perfectly fine.
Soya Chunks Varieties
There are 2 varieties of soya chunks available in supermarkets. You can buy whichever is available in the market. 1.Bigger variety – You should cut into half before using it for recipes as its quite big to absorb flavours as such. 2.Small variety – You can use it as such for any recipes as its very small.

Method 1: How to cook soya chunks
1.Boil water until it bubbles up rigourously then add salt to it.Pin 2.Add milk to it.Pin 3.Add soya chunks to it. I added bigger variety here..Pin 4.Cook covered for 2-3 mins.Pin 5.Open and check its cooked soft. Pin 6.It grows in size and turns soft.Switch off Pin 7.Drain soya chunks and rinse with cold water atleast twice.Cool down a bit.Pin 8.Let it cool down then squeeze to remove excess water.Pin 9.Cooked soyachunks or mealmaker ready. Method 2: How to cook mealmaker
1.Boil water until it bubbles up rigourously then add salt to it. Pin 2.Add soya chunks to it. I added smaller variety here.Pin 3.Cook for 2 mins.Pin 4.Switch off and set aside for 10 mins. Keep it covered.Pin 5.Now open soya chunks is cooked.Pin 6.Drain soya chunks and rinse with cold water atleast twice.Pin 8.Let it cool down then squeeze to remove excess water. Expert Tips
You can use any variety of soya chunks that you get. Rinsing soya chunks in cold water after cooking is the key to get rid of the after smell. If you are using big variety soya chunks chop them into half before using it for recipes. You can use it as an alternate for minced meat. Just pulse it few times to get minced soya kheema.But make sure there is no water, squeeze it fully then grind.
