My memories of Indian summers are of hot and lazy days, off from school, hanging out with friends, cousins and chugging down mom’s homemade lemonade. Mom always added fresh ginger to lemonade. The first time when my husband, Ravi tasted her lemonade it reminded him of the fresh sugarcane juice in India. This is when I realized that there was something very different about mom’s lemonade. It was the freshly grated ginger, with its aroma and spicy kick, that made it so much more refreshing and delicious! Enter your email & I’ll send it to your inbox. It is a crowd-pleaser and a great non-alcoholic drink to serve for your parties; it is a sure hit with adults as well as children.

Process
Step by step Ginger Lemonade recipe:
Wash and pat dry lemons and ginger. I do not peel ginger, it has a lot of flavors and nutrition. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly and wipe it with paper towels.
Cut each lemon into half and juice using a lemon squeezer. Four large lemons will yield approximately ½ cup of lemon juice.
Grate the ginger, 3 inch ginger should yield about 3 tablespoons of grated ginger.
In a small jar add ginger, sugar, salt, and lemon juice. Add 1 cup of water and stir well until the sugar dissolves.
Take a large pitcher (ideally the one from which you will be serving) and place a strainer over it. Pour the lemon juice mixture and gently press with the back of a spatula to get all the juices out.
Add 4 cups of chilled water, mix well. Serve over ice and mint leaves (optional) for a pop of color.
Storing
Although freshly made lemonade always tastes the best, you can easily refrigerate it for 2 to 3 days. You can also make the concentrate and store it in the fridge up to a week ahead or pour in an ice cube tray and freeze for longer shelf life. Did you enjoy this recipe?
