We make smoothie every morning almost every morning. So we like to switch it up and try a variety of fruits and veggies to make smoothies. We like to add nuts or nut butter for an extra boost of nutrition, as well as a banana or date for some natural sweetness – no added sugar in our smoothies! Some favorites so far have been my Mango Lassi, Avocado Banana Smoothie, and this Fig Date Smoothie. Bananas not only add a boost of nutrition to any smoothie recipe, but also act as the perfect natural sweetener. We like to make sure they are nice and ripened for maximum sweetness. The more spots, the sweeter the banana! Did you know, figs are called anjeer in India and smoothies milkshakes. So this would be a banana anjeer milkshake!
What are the benefits of eating figs?
Figs are low in calories and fat, but high in iron and calcium; this is why they are one of the recommended foods for pregnant women! They are great for vegan and vegetarian diets, as they are a plant source which provides many vitamins and minerals. Great for digestion; 1 ounce of dried figs contains 3 grams of fiber!
Ingredients for Banana Fig Smoothie
Figs, bananas, and any milk of your choice- that’s it! During Fig season, I prefer to use fresh ones in this smoothie. Costco is great for buying large quantities, so that I can use them in smoothies throughout the week. Whenever these aren’t available, dried figs work just as well! Just soak them in water beforehand, to make them a bit softer. You can even freeze the figs to make the smoothie colder. The bananas are key to making this smoothie as smooth and sweet as it is, so make sure they are nice and ripe for the best result. Just like with the figs, a frozen banana will make the smoothie nice and cold! I’ve used regular milk in this smoothie, but you can use almond, oat, soy, or any other type of milk you’d like to make this a vegan smoothie.
How to make Fig Banana Smoothie?
This smoothie is as simple as pouring all the ingredients into your mixer, and blending away! I like to use my Vitamix, because it blends everything super smooth in a matter of seconds, and comes with a small jar attachment that is perfect for a single serving. So refreshing and delicious.
Variations
Don’t have banana’s? Turn this into a Fig Strawberry Smoothie. Adding frozen or fresh strawberries will give the drink a lovely pink color, and add in the antioxidant benefits of berries. You might want to add a sweetener such as honey or maple syrup to get the right flavorl. For even more nutrition, you can add things such as almonds, cashews or nut butter to the smoothie. If using whole nuts, it may help to soak them in water beforehand, just to soften them up a bit before blending. Hope you enjoy this delicious Fig Banana Smoothie! More Beverages you will love:
