This salad is gluten-free, vegan and can be made oil free by skipping the olive oil. The creamy avocados perfectly balance out the acidity of the tomatoes, and the cucumber adds a burst of crunch and freshness. A real crowd-pleaser! This Indian-style Avocado Cucumber salad uses Chaat Masala, similar to this Indian Onion Salad. Chaat Masala is a special spice blend made from dried mango powder, pomegranate seeds, cumin, black salt etc. It is a key element in Pakistani and Indian street food like chana chaat, fruit chaat, papdi chaat, and, well, anything else with the word ‘chaat’ or any other street foods. Ingredients and Substitutions
Avocado: It adds fibre and healthy fats to the salad, making it more filling and satisfying. Its creamy texture contrasts nicely with the crispness of the cucumber and red onions. ✓ Takes less than 10 minutes to make this quick and easy dish ✓ Crispy and creamy – a great blend of textures ✓ It’s great for the whole family – kids will enjoy it as well ✓ It’s healthy – high in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats ✓ Can be made for large groups – for parties and get togethers! Cucumber: I prefer Persian cucumber because it contains a low water content and don’t require peeling. Cucumbers are keto-friendly, hydrating and are high in antioxidants. You can use english cucumbers as well. Cherry Tomatoes: These are a good choice because they are virtually always sweet and hold their shape in the salad. Tomatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin C. You can use any tomatoes if you don’t have cheery tomatoes. Red Onion: Because red onions are slightly sweeter and less pungent than yellow onions, they are ideal for this salad. Lime Juice: Simple lime dressing complements the salad’s flavors and freshness. Olive Oil: You can use avocado oil/ grape oil. Oil is optional and your salad can be oil free as well. Seasoning: salt and black pepper are the only two seasonings besides Chaat Masala, you require for this salad. Cilantro: If you’re not a fan of cilantro, then substitute it with parsley or basil. But cilantro is the herb of choice for this Indian style avocado salad.
