Pin Chilli bread is one of the popular dishes in bakeries. I have tasted chilli bread once at a bakery as I was very tempted to see it. It tasted so good but was very spicy for my tastebuds so had a thought of recreating it at home. Chilli bread is not very new its just like any other Indo chinese chilli recipes. Bread chilli is popular in Indian bakeries. I have seen it placed ready in a paper plate with a cling wrap on it. The red color is so popping and tempting to see through the glass mirror. Chilli bread is just another variation of chilli parotta that is popular in restaurants. Chilli idli is another variation to make. It is more or less like the manchurian recipes the main variation is fresh red chilli paste is added. Manchurian dishes are slightly on the sweeter side but chilli recipes are spicy. This was loved by all at home including the lil one who runs miles away seeing the spicy dishes. I had few leftover bread slices and luckily our homegrown spring onion so this chilli bread suddenly popped my mind to try it.
Chilli Bread Recipe
To beging with first toast the bread slices in oil until crip and golden, set aside. A basic sauce is made along with garlic, onion, capsicum along with red chilli paste and tomato sauce. Add littler water and boil the sauce for few mins, finally add the toasted bread pieces and toss well. Finally garnish with spring onion and switch off.
Variations
You can replace bread with idli, parotta or even chapathi. You can use storebought schezwan or chilli sauce too. Ususally bread pieces are deep fried but I toasted it until crisp and it tasted good. If you don’t have spring onion repalce with coriander leaves. I used brown bread as I had it you can use white bread or any variety of bread. You can toast the bread with butter or oil or ghee.
Serving and Storage
Serve it as such or with onion raita. Chilli bread can be served as a snack or starter/appetizer or even for dinner. As bread turns soggy after a while , I recommend serving immediately. And wouldn’t recommend it for storing.

Expert Tips
For making fresh red chilli sauce – soak few red chillies in hot water for 15-30 mins. Add to mixer and grind it to a paste until smooth adding required soaked water itself. Adding onion is optional but I prefer adding it for a nice crunch and flavour. Serve hot immediately as the bread may turn soft and soggy after sometime. For a indian twist add garam masala nad red chilli powder to the sauce, and finally garnish with coriander leaves.
